The Food Use Hierarchy

The Food Use Hierarchy (previously The Food Waste Hierarchy) applies the European Waste Framework Directive Waste Hierarchy to food waste. It is a useful framework identifying food waste mitigation methods in order of preference with the top priority to prevent waste, keeping food in the supply chain and finally, avoiding landfill.

Here is a case study using pumpkin seed oil as a example where food was moved up the food use hierarchy.
